This British made Belling is a fantastic buy and just had to be my winner. It's slimmer than most out there, measuring just over 50cm, so it’s great if you’re after a compact cooker. You’re getting excellent build quality, as you would expect from Belling, and I think it’s great for a smaller home. It has 2 cavities, the main oven holds 39 litres and offers conventional cooking (which means it’s good for cooking more than one thing at once that require different temperatures), while the top oven houses a separate grill. 

The hob has 4 gas burners, each with a flame safety device that makes sure the gas cuts off if a flame goes out. There’s a glass lid too for extra safety. It has gloss enamel pan supports making the hob really simple to clean, but you don’t get enamel interior liners, so you will have to spend an extra bit of time cleaning this cooker.

My number 2 is a really good size for a 3 or 4 person family. Like my number 1 model you’re getting two spaces – one oven and one smaller space for your grill. There’s a combined total of 83 litres, putting it right in the middle of our Top 5 in terms of space.

The main 60 litre oven is conventional, which makes it hotter at the top than the bottom. It’s excellent for cooking things at different rates, as well as giving your roasted joints of meat a crispy, golden brown top. Once you’re done, the Stay Clean liners inside mean you won’t have to clean inside the oven again. They absorb grease and dirt from your food, then burn it away. Easy.

You’re getting 4 individual burners on the hob, each with their own individual pan supports. Coated in enamel they’re really easy to keep clean too. The smooth surface means spills and burnt food doesn't stick, meaning you’ll need a soft cloth and some soapy water to get them back to their best.

Measuring 50cm wide, number 3 comes with 2 separate ovens offering you loads of space, as you can use both the ovens at once if you need to. There are 51 litres in the main one and 21 litres in the second one, which also features a grill. That’s plenty of space if you cook for a family of 4 or more. It also comes with a gas hob up on top with 4 burners. These come in three sizes which gives you even more flexibility, while the glass lid gives you an extra surface when you're not using it.

The slow cooking option is really great. The oven cooks the meat on a low temperature over a long time, so your food will absorb all the flavours and end up drop-off-the-bone tender. Delicious. 

You get an oven light in the main oven so you can see how your roast chicken is browning, and the whole thing comes with flame failure safety devices, which should give you peace of mind. They shut the gas off as soon as a flame goes out.

4th place has to go to the this Leisure cooker. I love the oldy-worldy look of it, but the cream colour gives it a modern feel too. Starting at the top, you’ve got the hob. It has 4 burners in 3 different sizes, so you can choose which one to use depending on what you’re heating.  If you’re anything like me, you’ll really appreciate the non-stick griddle on offer too. It’s ideal for cooking bacon for Sunday breakfast in bed.

Below the hob is the top oven and grill. I think it’s really useful, as if you’re eating on your own you can use it to cook a pizza, and it’ll use less energy than putting the main oven on.  Both cavities are controlled by the electronic LED timer, which can be set to turn the oven off at a certain. It’s ideal when you’re busy, as you can get on with other things while your food is cooking.

The main oven gives you 45 litres of space, so you’ll be able to cook a Sunday roast with no problem. I love that it has catalytic liners. These absorb the grease from your food, and then burn the residue away.

My favourite thing about the main oven is the door mounted handyrack roasting tin. It’s basically a baking tin attached to the inside of the door, so when you open it you don’t have to reach in between the shelves and pull the tin out. 

Number 5 comes in a smart black colour and looks very cool. It’s 60cm wide and comes with a 65 litre main oven, 35 litre top oven and grill, as well as 4 burners on the hob. It’s the biggest on my list, making it brilliant for a larger home.

It is a bit more expensive than some of the others on the list, but what I really love about it is that it comes with catalytic liners in the main oven. This basically means it’s self cleaning. The grease and dirt is absorbed by the oven lining, so all you need to do is turn the oven right up every once in a while to burn off the grease. Easy.

The second smaller oven can be used as either an oven or a grill, while the hob has enamel pan supports to make cleaning dead simple.  Also like my number 1, it comes with a clock which can also be used as a timer, so it’ll come in handy for things like boiling eggs. It’s LPG convertible too, so you can use bottled gas if you need to.
