The Goliath of American fridge freezers, my winner offers a whopping 628 litres of space. That’s 420 in the fridge and 208 in the freezer. What I love most about it is the fact that it maximises your storage space. It offers more space on the inside while keeping the same dimensions on the outside. Thanks to Samsung’s Ecospace you can fit more in, so you can shop less often. Brilliant!  

What’s also really clever is the Twin Cooling™ Plus. The freezer doesn’t affect the fridge in any way, so it stays at a constantly high 75% humidity level. This is recommended as the optimum level to keep food fresher for longer. To help even further, there’s Multi Flow technology. Hundreds of tiny little holes are spread throughout the fridge to make sure every shelf stays at an even and constant temperature. Even if it’s packed full, your food will stay in tip top condition. 

There's a Fresh Room Zone in the fridge which is ideal for keeping meat and fish fresh as it keeps the temperature at 0°C. It's also good for chilling your beers really quickly! I love the clever foldable shelf too, which makes room for tall bottles if you run out of door storage. 

In Manhattan silver (dark grey to you and me) it’s a real beauty and the filtered water and ice dispenser is extra tall so you can even get a jug under there. It has it all.

If you've a bit more money to spend, this Bosch is perfect. It’ll hold 604 litres in total, which is just a little bit less than my winner, but I love the way this looks. It’s not real stainless steel, but I think it's incredibly stylish and professional looking.

It has a dual cooling system similar to the one on my number 1. This means that the fridge and freezer are controlled separately to ensure the fridge maintains a high level of humidity, keeping your food at its best for longer. It also has MultiAirFlow technology to keep every shelf at a constant temperature so you can cram it full without having to worry about things going off.

The LCD display lets you activate the super freeze setting in the freezer. This comes in handy after the weekly shop when your food has been out of the freezer a while. You can rapidly reduce the temperature to cool down your veg so nutrients stay locked in. I love the twist ice dispensers in the freezer too. You just fill them up with water, let them freeze, then twist the ice out which collects in a container ready for your cocktails. Brilliant!

A bargain buy, my number 3 looks the business. It's the only black one on my list and I think it'll make a real impact in your kitchen, plus it won't show up fingerprints.

It has the all important ice and water dispenser, plus you’re getting Samsung’s Twin Cooling™ Plus and Multi Flow like on my number 1. It's got all the technology you'll need to keep your food fresh for as long as possible. It also has the Vacation mode and Super Freeze that you'll find on all the other Samsungs on my list.

I’d recommend this model to any family who has a preference for fresh, rather than frozen food, as the fridge space is more than generous. Holding 345 litres, over 5 shelves and 2 boxes, it has loads of door storage too. 179 litres are available in the freezer, which is also frost free, so you’ll never have to defrost again. Ever.

My number 4 is the winner of the Get Connected Product of the Year Award 2011, so you know you’re getting excellent quality here. With 365 litres in the fridge and 173 litres in the freezer, it's a brilliant size, but what I really love about this one is that you don’t have to faff around plumbing it in. That means there are no unsightly hoses and no need to change the filter either. You can just top it up when you need to, or even attach a bottle of spring water to a section inside the fridge. Very clever. The water dispenser is extra tall too so you can fit bottles or jugs under it.

It comes in brushed steel and has clever digital sensors throughout to help preserve your food for longer.  These monitor the temperature of the fridge and if it goes up, they react straight away to compensate so that the temperature stays constant. It has the Multi Flow technology seen on my number 1 too, which keeps every shelf cool, even if it’s packed full.

What's also great is the Moist Balance Crisper for your vegetables. This cleverly maintains a high humidity level in the salad box to keep them tasting like they've just been picked for as long as possible.

Number 5 is a beauty. It's stainless steel and I think its straight lines give off a very professional look. Holding 535 litres in total, it's a great size. You get 352 in the fridge and 183 in the freezer.

It doesn't have the Ecospace technology that I love on number 1, or as much space as number 2, but it does feature Twin Cooling™ Plus and Multi Flow, like the other Samsungs here, so it’ll help keep your food fresher for longer. The LED display makes amending the temperature in the fridge and freezer simple and it also allows you to activate the Vacation mode and Super Freeze setting.

The LED lighting is pretty impressive as it’s loads brighter than standard bulbs and 20% cheaper to run too. It has a water and ice dispenser in the door like most of the others, which will encourage the whole family to drink more water as it's so easy to access. It's frost free too. This means you’ll never have to worry about ice building up and taking up unnecessary space. Brilliant.
