This just had to be my winner. £229 for a Hotpoint is amazing. Taller than average at 174cm, and slim at 54cm, you'll be surprised just how much you can fit into it. There's 150 litres in the fridge and 85 litres in the freezer, which is plenty of room for a weekly shop. 

For extra protection there’s anti-bacterial lining in the walls, so bacteria and mould are less likely to form. It’ll keep your food fresher for longer too. There's also auto defrost in the fridge, which melts away any built up ice to help you save energy and money.

The freezer has a super cool super freeze function which is perfect after a big shop. At the touch of a button it quickly reduces the temperature so any unfrozen food that’s added is cooled down in no time. It even has ice trays integrated into 2 of the 4 freezer drawers, so you won’t have to worry about trying to balance them on top of your frozen peas.

The RFA52S is silver too, which makes much more impact in the kitchen than a white one. I just love it. 

Brand spanking new to the market, this Candy model is amazing value at £249. The integrated handles give it a very sleek look and for a little more than my number 1 model; you’re getting extra room inside too. It’s 172.5cm tall and with a total of 237 litres (156 in the fridge and 81 in the freezer) it’s ideal if you use fresh food just as much as frozen.

Plenty of flexible storage in this model there are 3 shelves, a salad box for your greens and a decent bit of door storage too – always helpful for your milk and juices. It’s dead easy to find things in the freezer too, as the 4 clear plastic drawer fronts make it simple to spot the stuff you’re after.

Full of useful features, the Frost Free function lets you forget about having to manually defrost your freezer, while the Auto Defrost feature ensures your fridge stays ice free and running at full performance. Not only will it save on your energy, but also on your electric bills too. Not surprising that it’s earned an A rating for efficiency.

You’ll never be short on space again, as the walls in this slick Samsung are thinner and better insulated than most other models. It gives you a total of 372 litres, which is split in to 257 litres in the fridge and 115 litres down in the freezer – it’s more than enough for a 4 person household and you get all this without taking up any more room than other 60cm models. Samsung call it their Ecospace and it’s fantastic at keeping food fresh without using loads of energy. It’s so savvy with your electricity that it’s earned an A++ rating.

Always a fun feature, the Water Dispenser is perfect for grabbing a refreshing drink, and for keeping your cuts of meat and fish just as fresh the Fresh Room Zone is fantastic. It’s a couple of degrees lower than the rest of the fridge, so it’s brilliant for locking in goodness and keeping your food for longer. You’ll never have to waste your time defrosting, thanks to the Frost Free technology which takes care of it for you and the Multi Flow cooling system is ideal for giving you an even temperature around the space – another feature to keep your food at its best and saves you an extra trip to the shops. Result.

My number 4 is quite a bit more expensive than my top 2, but I think it's worth it, plus it's been awarded a WHICH? Best Buy Award for 2012 too.

I love the stainless steel look, which I prefer over white, plus you’re getting the fantastic German build quality you’d expect from a company like Bosch. It’s A++ rated for energy efficiency too, which makes it incredibly cheap to run (about £30 a year) when you consider how much you can fit in it.

It’s also taller than my other 4 choices at 200cm. The fridge gives you 221 litres of space, and the freezer holds 94 litres, so you’ve loads of room to play with. There’s a really cool crisper box in the fridge, which has humidity control and a rippled base so air can circulate around it easier, keeping your leaves crisper for longer. 

I love the LED lights which are brighter and up to 20% cheaper to run than standard bulbs. It also has the Multi Flow technology found on my number 3.

Number 5 is the only black fridge freezer in my list and I think it makes more of an impact in the kitchen than standard white. It's really tall at 183cm, and at 54.5cm, it’s slim compared to standard 60cm models. Even though the CDA543FB doesn’t take up much floor space, it still gives you 157 litres of space in the fridge and 87 litres in the freezer. Perfect for a family of four. The adjustable shelves make it really flexible when you’ve got big joints of meat or massive pizzas to keep cool. 

The freezer is frost free, so you’ll never have to defrost again. Sit back and relax while the freezer does it all for you. It has a fast freeze setting which comes in handy after the big weekly shop. At the touch of a button the temperature drops rapidly and will freeze your unfrozen food in minutes. But what's really great in the freezer is the slimline ice bank. This is an extra little drawer just for you ice cube trays. It keeps them nice and flat so you won't have to try and balance them on your frozen peas any more!
