My winner is an induction hob, which gives you some amazing technology. It offers a quicker and more economical way to cook. I think it comes at a fantastic price when you consider what you're getting. It uses magnetic fields to heat your pan rather than the hob and it’s as responsive as gas, so you can go from boiling to simmering in a matter of seconds.

It has touch controls like my number 2, and each burner has 9 different power levels for flexibility. Like the others on my list, you get 4 different zones and it comes with a child lock too, so little fingers can’t mess with the controls. 

My runner up is my bargain buy and it looks like no other hob on my list as it comes in a granite effect. This is really unusual and will be particularly good if you have granite surfaces in your kitchen as it'll blend in seamlessly. 

It’s a fantastic price too and comes with 4 burners in 2 different sizes. If you're using smaller pans, you won't have to waste energy with heat escaping around the sides of your pan. Gooking on a ceramic hob is already more efficient than gas, though this is a great way to save that little bit more.

Each zone has 6 power levels, which doesn't give you as much flexibility as some of the other models here, but I still think that for the price, you’re getting a great deal. It'll be a breeze to clean as there are no fiddly bits and the ceramic surround is excellent at stopping spills from sticking. I think it's the perfect no mess, no fuss hob.

Customers who bought this number 3 Samsung model absolutely adore the way this model looks – it fits flush with your worktop surface and since there are no dials, it’ll look wonderfully sleek in your kitchen. The touch controls at the front are dead easy to use, so you’ll be able to get to grips with your new hob in no time.

There are 4 zones in total, giving you plenty of space for your pans, and once you’re done the residual heat indicator will let you know which zones are still hot – it’ll stop you accidentally touching the zones or putting things down on the hot surface. It’s very useful if you've got little ones in the kitchen with you too, as there’s a safety lock to stop anyone messing with the controls while your back is turned.

Cleaning is a doddle with this model too, as the smooth ceramic surround stops spills and food sticking. There aren't any fiddly dials to clean around either, so it’ll take you much less time than on other models.

This Whirlpool model is really great value for money. It’s ceramic, so you’re getting a smooth surface that’ll be really easy to clean. It has 4 cooking zones in different sizes- you can have your pasta bubbling away on one and your sauce warming on another.

Each zone has 6 power levels so you can cook everything to perfection. They’re all controlled by the touch buttons on the front, so you won’t have to lean over hot pans to get to them. Plus you won’t have any chunky dials to contend with.

It’s got some great safety features too. The residual heat indicator will let you know when the hob’s too hot to touch, so you won’t end up burning your fingers. Just remember it needs to be hardwired by a qualified electrician too.

Each zone is controlled by a touch button - they look much nicer than chunky dials, plus cleaning will be effortless thanks to the flat surface. Keep in mind it'll need to be hardwired by a qualified electrician too.
