My winning Hotpoint model is great if you’re looking for something simple to use and very affordable. It’s great for a 2 or 3 person home as the 6.5kg drum will hold around 20 wet T-shirts at once. You won’t have any trouble loading in your laundry either, thanks to the extra large porthole.

While you’re not getting sensor drying, there is a very detailed cycle list which will explain the best heat and cycle length, depending on the fabric and the size of your load. You've got options for low and high heat too, so if you’re drying more delicate fabrics, you've got gentle temperature to keep your finer clothes soft.

It’s excellent at preventing creases too, as the reverse drum action moves your clothes in both directions. It stops them tangling together and getting heavily wrinkled. Your ironing will take much less time and effort than normal.

My number 2 is fantastic if you’re looking for a no nonsense machine. This Zanussi takes the headache out of drying, so all you need to do is load it in and set it away. You’ll get the equivalent of 21 T-shirts inside the 7kg drum, and with the extra large porthole, you won’t have to wrestle your clothes in and out.

Your fabrics are protected from damage by over drying with the range of Sensor Drying options. It’ll detect the level of moisture in your clothes, then cut off the cycle when they’re dry enough for your liking. You’ve got presets for ‘cupboard dry’ if you’re storing things like sheets and towels, or if you want to wear your shirt right away, 'iron dry' leaves a little moisture in so it’s easier to iron.

This is a great choice and I think it's a fantastic price too! It's rated C for energy efficiency, and you get a great build quality that you'd expect from a company like Bosch. Plus there's 7kg of room, so you’ll fit in 21 T-shirts or the equivalent. Your clothes are protected from over-heating thanks to Sensor Drying, which automatically stops the cycle once your clothes are dried to perfection. It’ll save you money too as unnecessary energy isn’t wasted.

It comes equipped with 9 programmes, including an Anti-Crease option, which will reduce your weekly ironing pile nicely. There’s also a ‘Freshen Up’ cycle which is great for bringing an item of clothing back to life after you’ve only worn it once. Add to this an indicator that’ll let you know when you need to clean the filter and I think you’ve got one great value tumble dryer.
