A Bosch for £419 is an excellent price, which is why it’s my winner. You’re getting outstanding German build quality and an A+++ energy rating to help you cut down on your bills. You'll save over £100 during the life of the machine, as this model costs £10 less to run than any other in my Top 5.

At 7kg you’ll fit 35 T-shirts inside per load and it has a 1400 spin, which removes excess water from your clothes nice and quick, speeding up your drying time. You can also save time with the Self Cleaning Dispenser Drawer. It's a brilliant way to keep your machine clean without lifting a finger.

VarioPerfect technology guarantees you an excellent clean and saves wasting unnecessary water and electricity – all you have to do is push a button. It works out the best speed, water level and efficiency for each wash, so you don’t have to. There’s also a SuperQuick 15’ that gets a small load done in just 15 minutes - such a great time saving feature.

Easy washing is worth its weight in gold and so is this Bosch washer.

When it comes to getting the basics done well, you can’t ignore this Indesit. The 5kg drum gives you space to run a load of 25 T-shirts, which is great for a 2 or 3 person household. If you like the sound of speeding up your drying times then a 1200 spin speed will be ideal, as it extracts wash water quickly. You’ll save a little money too, as while this isn’t the most efficient in my list, it’s still rated A+ which shows just how savvy it is with your electricity.

You’ll love the amount of time the Quick Wash will save you. It’ll blitz through a small, daily load in just 15 minutes which matches my number 1 pick to the minute. When you’ve got more time on your hands the Intensive Wash option will no doubt come in handy too, as it’s excellent for getting your heavily soiled items back to their best – it’s especially good for your whites too.

At just £179 this Indesit is a fantastic bargain. Well worthy of the number 2 spot.

At £249 I think this Indesit is great value for money. Like my number 4 choice, it’s got an 8kg drum which is capable of washing up to 40 t-shirts in one go. It also has a 1400 spin speed, which means excess water is removed really quickly making the drying time much shorter. For the harder to tackle stains, you’ve also got an Extra Rinse to choose.

If you haven’t got time to wait, the 15 minute Express Quick Wash is a great feature that will tackle a smaller load of 1.5kg in a fraction of the time. There’s also an Eco Wash option, which will take a bit longer to clean your clothes but use 40% less water and energy in the process. It scores well on energy efficiency too – with an A+ rating.

I love the Delay Timer – it’s great for letting you fit your washing in around your busy life, as it will push back the start time, ending at a time that’s convenient to you. You’ll also find a Sports Programme to take care of the family sports clothes and shoes.

A fantastic number 4 as the 8kg drum means you can wash 40 T-shirts at once, plus the 1400 spin speed gets the excess water out of your clothes really quickly. Less time drying on the line means more spare time for you.

This Samsung has market leading ecobubble technology, which uses bubbles penetrate your clothes deeper, cleaning them better and giving you fantastic. Your wash will be 70% more efficient than standard cycles as the bubbles help keep wash costs low and save you money - no surprises that it's earned itself an A++. Your clothes look their best for longer too, as the Diamond Drum pattern protects your fabrics from bobbles and snags.

One thing you might overlook is the Ceramic Heaters. They last three times longer than normal heaters and they heat water quicker and more efficiently too.

While my 5th place pick is the smallest in the list at 6kg, or 30 T-shirts, it’s very much capable of handling the weekly loads of a couple or even three people. Better yet, it’s got the widest variety of cycles, meaning you’ll have ideal settings for pretty much every wash. The 1000 spin speed isn’t quite as quick as the other models, but the A efficiency rating certainly makes up for that, as it’ll actively cut down on your energy use.

Cycles-wise, you couldn’t ask for more. You're getting a speedy 15 minute Quick Wash, an Intensive Wash cycle which uses longer soaking times on tougher stains and an Eco Wash for when you want to cut down your energy use. It takes a little longer but the savings are well worth it. There’s even 4 specific Sports Washes – one of them designed to get your trainers sparkling again. This very capable and adaptable washing machine is too good to pass up at just £179.
