Fridge freezers are available in two fit types, either freestanding or built-in / integrated. Before you choose a model you should consider what look you are trying to achieve in your kitchen.
- Freestanding – these types of fridge freezers are ideal if you have the space as they can just slot into your kitchen, so they’re completely visible and out in the open.
- Built-in – these fridge freezers are designed to be integrated behind your kitchen units, so the style of the room will not change.

Many fridge freezers on the market come with advanced features and functions to help increase the length of time your food stays fresh, for example:
- A cooling system works by filtering cold air into every square inch of the refrigerator and solves the problem of uneven temperatures caused by warm air rising.
- Auto – defrost function that stops ice building up on the back wall of the fridge section by automatically defrosting it at regular intervals.
- A Frost free system ensures that you will never have to defrost your freezer again, by eliminating the formation of ice on food and the freezer interior.

All fridge freezers are now rated by the EU to let people know how much energy is needed to run them. The energy ratings go from ‘A’ to ‘G’ with ‘A’ being the best. A fridge freezer with a good energy rating will save you electricity and money on your energy bills. The majority of fridge freezers are ‘A’ rated, however some manufacturers will have ‘A+’ or ‘A++’. ‘A+’ is 10% more energy efficient than an ‘A’ rated model and ‘A++’ is 20% more efficient than an ‘A’ rated model.
A good way to work out just how much money buying an energy saving fridge freezer will save you is to calculate how much it costs to run over a year.
