Fridge freezers are available two fit types, either freestanding or built-in / integrated. Before you choose a model you should consider what look you are trying to achieve in your kitchen.

  • Freestanding – this type of fridge freezers are ideal if you have the space as they can just slot into your kitchen, so they’re completely visible and out in the open.
  • Built-in – these fridge freezers are designed to be integrated behind your kitchen units, so the style of the room will not change.

The storage space for fridge freezers is measured in total litres rather than the physical dimensions of each compartment:

  • 100 – 250 litre - if you have a small family (1-2 people), a fridge freezer with this total capacity will give you enough space to store a week’s worth of food.
  • 200 – 450 litre – this size fridge freezer will be perfect for a medium sized family (3-4 people).

All fridge freezers are now rated by the EU to let people know how much energy is needed to run them. The energy ratings go from ‘A’ to ‘G’ with ‘A’ being the best. A fridge freezer with a good energy rating will save you electricity and money on your energy bills. The majority of fridge freezers are ‘A’ rated, however some manufacturers will have ‘A+’ or ‘A++’. ‘A+’ is 10% more energy efficient than an ‘A’ rated model and ‘A++’ is 20% more efficient than an ‘A’ rated model.
