Healthy breakfast seekers 'face a tough choice'

It is time for companies to look carefully at the breakfast foods they produce, according to one expert.

Following a survey published this week that found many of the most popular cereals on the market to be high in sugar content, a spokesperson for the organisation behind the research has spoken out.
Sue Davies, chief policy adviser of Which?, called on manufacturers to consider the ingredients they are putting in to such products - particularly those aimed at children.

"Breakfast is important and some cereals deserve their healthy image, but most simply don't," she said.
"With such little choice, it's a daily struggle for consumers," Ms Davies added.

Of course, one option for ensuring the first meal of the day is to consider eating more fruit, as well as buying fresh orange juice and perhaps even yoghurts.

These foods could be kept fresher for longer in a new, efficient fridge-freezer - such as the A++ rated Bosch KGV36X10GB.

Consumers advised to start the day right

People may not be aware of the high sugar content in cereals, according to a new study that looks at 100 of the top brands.

Consumer watchdog Which? says eight per cent of the cereals it tested could be considered healthy – but 31 per cent contain over four teaspoons of sugar in one regular-sized serving.

The worst offender was found to be Morrisons Choco Crackles, which have more sugar in one serving than a Cadbury's Flake - and even brands thought to be the healthy option fell foul of the researchers.

"Starting the day with Special K, for example, would be almost the sugar equivalent to waking up to a bowl of Tesco's Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake Ice Cream," the report noted.
Of course, one way to make sure you wake up to a fresh and healthy breakfast is to ensure the right items are in your fridge each day.

The A-rated Bosch KIV38A51GB fridge-freezer can help with this, as the unit is equipped with frost-free technology that could stop items like grapefruits and oranges becoming damaged.

New site aims to engage people with food

A new website has been launched that could interest those who have just purchased a new oven or hob.

Claiming to offer everything from fry-ups to cake mixes, iLoveMyGrub.com aims to inspire consumers to get behind their cookers and prep stations to try out a wealth of recipes.

In addition, the site will offer news on the latest ingredients, reviews on the best places to eat out and advice on how to tackle trickier meal ideas.

The foodie resource also supplies a regular newsletter offering updates on the culinary world, as well as the chance to win some "delectable" prizes.

Helenka Bednar, editor of iLoveMyGrub.com, said the site will address the nation's desire to eat more responsibly.

"We're all far more aware of where our food comes from and [we aim] to keep people abreast of the best food out there, when it comes to taste and ethics too," she adds.

Of course, when all your new meal ideas come to fruition, a new cooker hood may also be a solid investment. Bosch currently has a range of models available including the DWW062450B, DWW072450B, DWW062460B and DWW092450B.

Beko dishwasher 'a timesaver for families'

A new dishwasher from Beko could give you more time to do other things.

Beko's status as one of the leading appliance manufacturers in the UK is helping families find more time, it has been suggested.

The manufacturer claimed the technology involved in its latest range of dishwashers is allowing designated loaders the chance to tackle the job faster.

It noted one of the biggest benefits of having such an appliance is the time they save - allowing people to get on with other things.

Beko believes the DWD8657 model is capable of providing this solution - but not at the cost of how thoroughly it ensures items end up "spotlessly clean".

The firm highlighted the unit's rapid 30-minute wash programme, toddler hygiene setting and its Quick & Clean technology – a feature also available on models like the DWD540 and DSFN1530.

"Additionally, the time delay feature allows for taking advantage of cheaper electricity rates such as Economy 7," Beko concluded.

The Beko DWD8657 is a freestanding model available in white and silver.

AEG-Electrolux's 'programme-packed' Lavamat range

AEG-Electrolux has highlighted some of the features that it believes make its range of washer dryers worthy of consideration.

The manufacturer this week took the opportunity to note some of the integrated technology included on its Lavamat series - including silent running and a drum that can handle 8 kg of washing and 6 kg of drying.

AEG-Electrolux also point out consumers may require a washer dryer with a wide selection of programmes - something it notes the L14950 model provides.

"Highlights include special options of prewash, stain, wool plus, daily/super-quick and sensitive – designed specifically for people who are extra sensitive to dirt, dust and pollen,"

The manufacturer's L12843VIT washer dryer is a model that offers a 1,400 rpm spin-speed and comes with a one-year warranty. Features include an automatic half-load function, delicate load and pre-wash setting and fuzzy logic technology.

Rated B for energy efficiency and A for wash performance, the unit could be ideal for the smaller home with a 6 kg wash capacity.
