Our Most Popular Washing Machines

Continuing in the theme of our most popular appliances this week I’m going to be looking at washing machines. You can find previous posts in this series here and here.

1. The Hotpoint WMD962P. Personally I don’t find washing machines that interesting but looking at this list I can see why this is at the top. It’s got a large drum (which means it can handle more clothes), high spin speed (which improves its ability to wring out water), a decent energy efficiency rating and it’s from a good brand but more importantly you don’t pay through the nose for it. Add on a whole raft of programmes and an easy to use control panel and you’ve got a sure winner.

2. Beko WME8227W. Both of the top two models offer good value for money, I’d even go so far as to say that they offer the same level of value for money. You get slightly less on the WME8227W but you also pay less so if you’re looking for a cheap washing machine buy this one.

3. Hoover OPH714DF/1. You’d be forgiven for not being able to tell the difference between this and either of the top two washing machines. The crucial difference is that this Hoover model has a slightly smaller drum but makes up for it with “Fuzzy Logic” that automatically adjusts settings depending on how much laundry you load at once.

4. Hotpoint WMF760P. The most concise description of this would be that it’s the WMD962P’s little brother. It’s normally a bit cheaper (although prices may change) but it doesn’t pack quite the same punch.

5. Hotpoint BHWM129. The only built-in washing machine in our top 5. It’s sad but true that built-in washing machines don’t come with as many functions as freestanding ones for the same price; everything has to fit behind a cupboard door so it’s mechanically more challenging to stuff everything in. Having said that you don’t have to put up with being able to see your washing machine sitting in the corner of the room like a barely tolerated houseguest. You can shut the door and pretend its not there.

Our Best Selling Dishwashers

Following on from last week’s post about the most popular fridges, freezers etc, this week we’re publishing our most popular dishwashers.

They’re placed in order of their popularity during February and it’s fair to say that Beko seemed to have done quite well for themselves.

Our most popular dishwasher was the Beko DW600 and it’s quite easy to figure out why. On paper there’s nothing really special about it. It uses 15 litres of water for a standard wash which is less than washing by hand but not especially low. It takes 12 place settings, which is decent enough but not amazing. And while it is A rated for energy efficiency it’s not the most efficient machine on the market.

But, and this is a big but, there isn’t anything wrong really wrong with it. It’s not the kind of machine where you accept that it’s a bit rubbish but you don’t mind because it was cheap. And nor is it at the cutting edge of dishwasher technology where you have to pay through the nose to get it. It’s a solid appliance, that washes your dishes and does so for a reasonable price – which it turns out is what most people want.

2. Bosch Avantixx SGS45A02GB – Avantixx is Bosch’s mid-range family of appliances, sitting somewhere above Classixx but a little below the Exxcel line. The SGS45A02GB is our most popular freestanding dishwasher.

3. Beko DWD4311W – This Beko only missed out on the number two spot by the very narrowest of margins. With specifications and a price similar to the DW600 it’s a good freestanding alternative to our most popular dishwasher.

4. Beko DSFN1530W – The DSFN1530W is a more feature packed version of the DWD4311W (the model above in case you find all these codes as confusing as I do) but it’s also slightly noisier when it runs. Personally I’d be happy with either of them.

5. Beko DW450 – It’s a slimline version of the DW600 (the most popular dishwasher) with similar perks; it’s not glamourous but it does the job and it does it well.

Our Best Selling Fridges, Freezers and Fridge Freezers

Freezers

Our most popular freezer was the Beko TZDA504F and you can find the silver version of this model here. At first glance it’s pretty obvious why this model is so popular; it’s large, it’s inexpensive and you can store in an unheated room (like a garage) if you want to.

Following the TZDA504F in order of popularity were;

2. Hotpoint RZAV21P – an inexpensive under counter freezer.

3. Beko ZA630W – another under counter freezer which only narrowly missed out on second place.

4. Indesit UFAN400NF - a tall freezer with plenty of internal storage.

5. Hotpoint RCNAA33P – the only chest freezer in the top 5.

Fridges

Our most popular fridge (by a considerable margin) was the Hotpoint RLAV21P. The most frequent comment made about the RLAV21P in its reviews are that it is value for money and is of a good build quality. It’s auto-defrost as well so you won’t end up with a build up of ice on the back wall – what more can you ask for?

Following the RLAV21P in order of popularity were;

2. Beko BL20 – the Beko BL20 is very similar to the RLAV21P but while the latter is freestanding the BL20 is built-under.

3. Hotpoint RLA34P – The RLA34P is essentially the RLAV21P’s older brother. It’s larger and has a few more features but otherwise is pretty much the same.

4. Beko LA620S – at the time of writing the Beko LA620S has an average of 4.7 out of 5 in customer reviews.  Pretty good going for the price.

5. Indesit SAN400 – the only tall fridge in our top 5, the SAN400 is nearly 5’9” tall and accordingly has a lot more storage space than any of our other top 5.

Fridge Freezers

Our most popular fridge-freezer is the Hotpoint RFA52 which is available in silver, the RFA52S,and white, the RFA52P. The most common comments made in our customer reviews was that this fridge-freezer was value for money, easy to use and of a good build quality – which pretty much speaks for itself.

Following the RFA52 in order of popularity were;

2. Beko CDA543F – an immensely popular fridge freezer available in white, as the CDA543FW, black, model number CDA543FB and silver, the CDA543FS.

3. Zanussi ZRB227WO – although not as popular as the CDA543F or RLAV21 it is slightly more energy efficient than both.

4. Hotpoint FF7190EX – while the top 3 most popular fridge freezers are all slimline the FF7190EX is actually wider than a traditional fridge freezer at 70cm.

5. Indesit INC325AI - the main difference between the INC325AI and the rest of the top 5 is that it has a split of 50:50 fridge to freezer.
American Fridge Freezers

It would be unfair to write any list of top selling fridge freezers without also mentioning  our top selling American fridge-freezer; the Samsung RSH5UBBP.  It’s got everything that us Europeans associate with American models – water dispenser, ice dispenser, huge storage capacity and doors that open to the side without the horrific price tag that they actually come with in the US.  Add to that a two year warranty as standard and it is easy to see why it’s so popular.

This list was accurate at the time of publishing  however please be aware that we haven’t included any products which were popular in February but have since been discontinued.

Appliances Online and Children in Need

Today at Appliances Online we decided that we would donate 10p to Children in Need for every new Twitter follower we get today.

We’ve been asked to clarify what we meant and to officially back this up.

At the start of the day we had 2,309 followers on Twitter. Let’s round that down to 2,300.

We will check this number again at midnight tonight and for every follower over the original 2,300 we will donate 10p to Children in Need.

We’ve been asked to specify an upper limit to the amount of money we are willing to put behind this. We will guarantee this for the first 100,000 followers.

If we end up with a considerable amount more followers than anticipated (as in more than @stephenfry) we will then donate more money.

Any questions feel free to get in touch with @apponline.

Friday Competitions

If you’ve been following us on Twitter you might have noticed that we ran a last minute competition on Friday. We gave away a box of retro sweets and the lucky winner was @pinkchippie.

Nicole (who is looking after our competitions at the moment) had so much fun reading through the entries that she’d decided we should run a Friday afternoon competition this week as well. If you want to enter or even be told what the prize is you’ll have to join @AppOnline on Twitter and wait until Friday.

Good luck.
