Spring cleaning advice for fridges, dishwashers and ovens

Those looking to freshen up their home with a spring clean have been advised on tackling their kitchen appliances.

With many people's minds now turning to the annual spring clean, one expert has advised how this can include kitchen appliances. In an article for the St Louis Post Dispatch, Karen Deer offered a number of handy hints that included ways in which to freshen up fridges, dishwashers and ovens.

She suggested unplugging the refrigerator and vacuuming the coils on the back of the machine, as hot water and bleach can then be used to clean the grill. Running a dishwasher cycle with no load and a cup of white vinegar will clear the system out, Ms Deer explained, adding that ovens with self-cleaning technology need to be used correctly.

"If you have a self-cleaning oven, remember to open windows to help with ventilation. Don't forget to remove the racks. If you manually clean your oven, use rubber gloves to protect your hands," she concluded.

The Bosch HBM53B550B and HBN43B260B double ovens are equipped with stay-clean liners, which burn off grease as the appliances are used.
