Looking after fridges and dishwashers can make them more effective, according to one expert.
Refrigerators and dishwashers "never get a day off" and should be given a little more attention, one expert advises.
According to Bruce Hoekenga, a spokesman for US store Mr Appliance, kitchen appliances take a lot of daily abuse and by making sure they are properly cleaned and maintained they will run better.
In a piece for the Forum Publishing Group, tips are offered on how fridges and other items can be kept clean and free from odours - some of which will make them operate in a more efficient manner.
"Unplug the refrigerator and pull it away from the wall. Use a vacuum wand or brush to gently clean any dust off of the coils. This will help save you energy and money," it states.
In addition, the article suggests running an empty dishwasher cycle with a cup of white vinegar placed inside to remove smells and unseen residues.
