Spring cleaners advised: Do not forget the hob

Now is the time to freshen up your kitchen - and electricals should not be left behind, according to one expert.

In an article for the Forum Publishing Group, one expert explains it is essential to include your cooking appliances when giving your home its annual spring clean, offering tips on how best to approach this.

Bruce Hoekenga of Mr Appliance states there are a number of reasons to make sure ovens, hobs and grills are spic-and-span - not least improving their lifespan.

"Don't neglect your kitchen appliances during spring cleaning," he adds. "Keep them clean to help them last longer and run more efficiently."

When it comes to electric burners, food should be wiped off when cold and residue can be taken care of by being burnt off, whereas gas burners should be removed and washed by hand.

The article recommends running the self-cleaning cycle on your oven - if it has one - but suggests homeowners "remember to open doors and windows to help with ventilation".

Bosch's PIE645T14E electric hob features an easy to clean glass surface and has a safety lock to avoid the zones being accidentally switched on.
