The apartment washing machine

I have just been perusing the history of AEG on the company's website (perfect work-like activity for a Monday morning) and was surprised at how early certain appliances were first produced. The company presented the first small electrical domestic appliances at a world exhibition in 1989 and produced the first 'automatic ice machine and refrigerator' all the way back in 1911! One that caught my eye was the production of a small washing machine suitable for apartments in 1951, which I think is amazingly innovative for the time. The apartment washing machine, and indeed appliances in general suitable for small spaces are still big business today, in an age with an ever increasing amount of the population living in apartments.

The smallest AEG washing machine today is 6kg, which although designed with a smaller household in mind, is no match for what its sister company has produced. The smallest Zanussi washing machine is a tiny 3kg, which really is the ideal washing machine for even the most compact apartment! (and it will easily accommodate the wash load of two adults)

P.S How cute is the teeny tiny apartment in the picture?! Although probably would start to feel like a coffin after a while…
