How to wash your woollens

In winter we all wrap up warm in jumpers, gloves and scarves which unfortunately gives us a far greater need to wash our woollens. Typically we’ve been advised not to put wool into the washing machine because warm temperatures can damage it, causing shrinkages, felting and the clothes to lose their original shape.

However, the newer ranges of washing machines tend to have an option for woollens which means you no longer have to go to the effort of handwashing. In the Bosch Classixx range the handwash wool option is a feature on several models. The Bosch Classixx WAE24164GB Washing Machine being just one example.

The handwash wool cycle cycle runs at a spin speed of just 27rpm – nearly half the usual spin speed. Its soft wash action and special spin phase ensure everything stays in its original shape. Running at lower temperatures means the gentle cycle washes effectively but doesn’t get too hot as to destroy the fabric.

If you don’t have this function on your washing machine remember wool items don’t need cleaning after every wear. Too much washing will damage the fabric. But remember next time you upgrade to bear in mind a washing machine with a wool wash capacity can save you eons in time and effort.
