The Test Lab article in January’s Which? explores predictions for the kitchens of 2020. In ten years time will cooking, cleaning and washing have morphed beyond recognition, or will we still be relying on the same old machines?
Which? has several ideas for the future of kitchen appliances. So what are its predictions?
Washing machines – will have shorter programmes, run at lower temperatures and we may even see a waterless washing machine (using steam).
Tumble dryers – less creasing from improved steam drying.
Dishwashers – less water, more steam to loosen dirt and more wall mounted models that wash and store plates.
Fridge freezers – fridge freezers that use much less energy and preserve food for longer.
Ovens and cookers – induction cooking and machines with auto-menus or sensor cooking.
The article also recommended several Best Buy products in 2010:
• The Siemens WM14S494GB washing machine - priced at £770 in Which? but £558 at Appliances Online and comes with a five year warranty
• The Siemens WT46W560GB condenser tumble dryer
• Bosch SMV53M00 Exxcel Standard Dishwasher
• The AEG-Electrolux S75348KG98 fridge freezer
• AEG-Electrolux B57415M single oven
So what are your kitchen predictions for the next decade? I'd like to believe everything will load and unload itself in a decade's time. I love the idea for wall mounted dishwashers that clean and store plates like in the image! How about you - what are your dreams about kitchen appliances for the future? Feel free to comment below.
