If you’re looking for a fridge you’ll often find the term “larder fridge”. We’ve covered in a previous post the difference between a larder fridge and a regular fridge – see what is a larder fridge? But in essence a larder fridge is one without an ice box – simple as that.

So, when would you choose a fridge with an ice box, and when would you not?
Before you buy your new fridge think about what you’ll be using it for – do you actually need an ice box?
You might want to buy a larder fridge (no ice box) are if you already have an easily accessible freezer in which to store frozen food.
A larder fridge is a great option when complementing a freezer of equal size so you can store fresh or frozen food. It also means you can store more in the fridge because the ice box doesn’t take up space!
Neff has a wide range of built in larder fridges including the Neff K5604X7GB with a super efficient A+ energy rating to help keep your energy bills low.
The Hotpoint RLS150P is a larger larder fridge. This freestanding model has a capacity of 290litres – perfect for the bigger family.
If you haven’t got a freezer, or your freezer is in the garage a fridge with an ice box would be useful for storing small amounts of frozen food – maybe a meal’s worth or a single shopping bag full.
Fridges with ice boxes are also useful in the summer months when you’ll be stocking up on lollies and ice cream. During the long hot months this extra space can be easily filled!
Plus, ice boxes are great for quickly chilling drinks or keeping ice for a party – especially if your main freezer is in the garage! It means you don’t have to keep going outside to collect ice, frozen party foods or quick chilled drinks.
