What a cookery school in the Cotswolds taught Neff

If you’re ever driving through Colebourne in Gloucestershire and see a sign that says “to the church” then the chances are that you’re a stone’s throw away from a brand new, locally run business that Neff is boasting about working with.

We get sent a lot of promotional material and even though I’m an appliance geek I find it hard to get excited about most of it. Normally you can tell just by looking at the pictures that it’s going to say something like “product X is full of innovative innovations that will change the way you cook/wash/cool your wine”. This week however, Neff surprised me by featuring an article about The Food Works, a family run cookery school.

The brainchild of Harriet Elwes, it’s taken two years of planning, preparation and building to get The Food Works ready to open to the public but even at a glance you can see it’s been worth it. As well as having a custom built kitchen (with state of the art cooking appliances from Neff), Harriet has gathered a team that includes MasterChef finalist Ben Axford, master baker Maurice Chaplais, butchery expert Aaron Leyton and patisserie chef Katy Fielding.

But despite offering much more than a regular cookery school Harriet is determined that The Food Works won’t charge a premium rate because she feels that “the very high prices charged by many cookery schools sometimes put people off.” Looking at the course list it seems she has been true to her word with half day courses like “University Survival” costing £45 and full day courses costing from £75.

So why does this impress me? The Food Works only opened in April and Neff are already throwing their support behind them because they’ve recognised that being associated with this small, local business says far more about them than any amount advertising.

If you’re looking for cookery lessons or wine tasting in the Cotswolds then please visit The Food Works. If you’re looking for Neff cooking appliances then please see our range of ovens and hobs.

Your comments and questions are always appreciated so if you’ve been to The Food Works and want to tell us about it, or you have an opinion on Neff appliances please let us know by posting a comment below.
