For this Friday’s post we’ve enlisted the help of an expert in the form of professional launderer Lewis Arden from Clean Inc. Lewis kindly agreed to answer a few questions about laundry despite the fact that he was busy when I called.
The most common clothing stains – “The most common ones we get are probably mud, wine and blood.”
The worst stains to wash – “Urine because you don’t want to get it on your hands. Red wine is probably the toughest though. We get a lot of people coming in after they’ve been on a night out and got red wine on their white top. For light stuff we’ve got a special bleach but it’s not the type of stuff you can get for use in the home.”
How to remove sweat stains – “We mix soap and water in a spray and spray it on before washing - Vanish works well too. With dry cleaning there are different chemicals you can mix together. If you’re washing so long as you use a decent washing powder and softener that’ll get rid of most stains.”
Hints and tips – “If you don’t know what you’re doing then take it to a professional. We get people coming in who’ve ruined their clothes trying to clean it themselves.”
Clean Inc. is a drycleaning, laundry and ironing service based in the Greater Manchester area. I called Lewis at their Didsbury branch (0161 613 6171) but you can also find them in Heaton Moor (0161 286 6100) and Stockport (0161 429 9110).
