Finding a hob that looks good is easy when you’ve got £800. It’s not hard when you’ve got £500 and it’s only moderately challenging with £400. But say you’re looking for a hob for £300 or less, what then? This week’s “how to Friday” examines good looking and unusual hobs that are suitable for the most conservative of budgets.
Stoves S1-G600TE – An all black gas hob from a high end manufacturer without the usual price tag – a shoe in on any list of good ideas. So long as you like black and have a gas supply this hob is a bargain. Unfortunately this is a “while stocks last” product so there’s no knowing how long we’ll be able to offer it.
Hotpoint GF640X - Wok burner, funky design and available in stainless steel, black or white. If you want something a little bit different from the standard “four circles on a square” design then this is one option that won’t break your bank.
Candy PG640/1X - A very modern looking gas hob. Just like the Hotpoint GF640X it’s a bit different from your average model but it’s also very reasonably priced.
Five ring hobs - Five hobs doesn’t have to cost more than four so if you like the look and have the space - go for it! You can’t go far wrong with the Baumatic B68.1SS or the Indesit PI750ASTIX both of which have a large central wok burner and come in stainless steel.
Smeg SE640CXM - I’ll be honest and admit that I was genuinely surprised to find any Smeg models within this price range but it turns out my preconceptions were getting the better of me. When you actually look at it Smeg have quite a selection of good value hobs for less than £300. The SE640CXM is such good value for a designer ceramic hob that you would be forgiven for thinking the price was a typo.
