There is a difference between built-in ovens and built-under ovens and you would do well to remember it. In fact the number one reason we have to pick up an oven after delivering it (bear in mind we do a ten day no quibbles return) is because someone ordered the wrong type. If you want to save yourself the hassle of having an appliance redelivered then please read on.
What is the difference between built-in and built-under ovens?
Built-in ovens are any oven that can be installed in column. The oven is placed inside a specially prepared kitchen unit, usually at chest height and remains fixed in place. This basically covers any oven not fitted as part of a freestanding cooker.
Built-under ovens are specifically designed to be installed underneath an average height kitchen counter. This means that they have to be 72cm or less tall.
The problem normally arises when someone unknowingly buys a built-in oven under the assumption that it will automatically fit under a counter but because a double oven can be as much as 120cm tall this is not always the case.
Built-under ovens can be fitted in column – not all built-in cookers can fit under a work surface.
When you’re aware of the fact that there is a difference between built-in and built-under it is easy to tell the difference. Please bear this in mind.
