Our Most Popular Washing Machines

Continuing in the theme of our most popular appliances this week I’m going to be looking at washing machines. You can find previous posts in this series here and here.

1. The Hotpoint WMD962P. Personally I don’t find washing machines that interesting but looking at this list I can see why this is at the top. It’s got a large drum (which means it can handle more clothes), high spin speed (which improves its ability to wring out water), a decent energy efficiency rating and it’s from a good brand but more importantly you don’t pay through the nose for it. Add on a whole raft of programmes and an easy to use control panel and you’ve got a sure winner.

2. Beko WME8227W. Both of the top two models offer good value for money, I’d even go so far as to say that they offer the same level of value for money. You get slightly less on the WME8227W but you also pay less so if you’re looking for a cheap washing machine buy this one.

3. Hoover OPH714DF/1. You’d be forgiven for not being able to tell the difference between this and either of the top two washing machines. The crucial difference is that this Hoover model has a slightly smaller drum but makes up for it with “Fuzzy Logic” that automatically adjusts settings depending on how much laundry you load at once.

4. Hotpoint WMF760P. The most concise description of this would be that it’s the WMD962P’s little brother. It’s normally a bit cheaper (although prices may change) but it doesn’t pack quite the same punch.

5. Hotpoint BHWM129. The only built-in washing machine in our top 5. It’s sad but true that built-in washing machines don’t come with as many functions as freestanding ones for the same price; everything has to fit behind a cupboard door so it’s mechanically more challenging to stuff everything in. Having said that you don’t have to put up with being able to see your washing machine sitting in the corner of the room like a barely tolerated houseguest. You can shut the door and pretend its not there.
