How to clean your cooker

This week's "how to" blog will focus on a task we get asked about again and again. It can be an arduous task but unfortunately it just has to be done from time to time, so here are some tips on how to make cleaning your oven or cooker as easy as possible – and get shimmering clean results everytime!

Cleaning the interior of a very dirty oven

You will need: water, an oven proof bowl, a lemon

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze into a bowl of water, then place the bowl in the oven. There should be enough water in the bowl to cover the lemon’s skins.

Turn on the oven to about 160 to 200°C and wait until the water boils and begins to make steam then turn it down so the water begins to simmer slowly.

Leave for about 20 to 30 minutes until there is only a little water left in the bowl and then turn off the oven.

When the oven is still warm open it and begin wiping with a damp cloth. The grease should soften and begin to come off.

For thick baked on grease use bicarbonate of soda mixed into a paste with a little water, and rub on to the thick area. Then apply lemon juice or vinegar and heat the oven as above.
