How to move a washing machine

This week we received a question about moving a WTL500P washing machine. Is it easy? Is it possible? How should you do it?

Lucy, our question and answer expert, went to the manufacturer, Hotpoint to find out how, and this is what she discovered.

Scenario 1 – moving from one room to another

If you’re just moving your washing machine from one room to another it won’t damage the machine if you just carry it or shuffle it across.

Scenario 2 – moving house

For longer journeys such as moving house manufacturers advise replacing the transit bolts to prevent damage to the drum. The transit bolts will have been screwed into the back of the machine when it was first delivered and basically look like four large bolts. You will have had to remove the bolts to use the appliance. If you no longer have the bolts don’t worry you can pick up replacement ones from your manufacturers spare parts department. If your machine is a Hotpoint simply call them on 08448225225.

Don’t worry if you don’t own a Hotpoint, this advice will be the same no matter what brand of washing machine you have.

Have a great time moving!
