Important Safety Notice - Beko Fridge Freezers

Following recent news reports surrounding the safety of Beko frost free fridge freezers we are here to give you the facts.  We are the appliance specialists and want to help anyone who is concerned.

The good news for Appliances Online customers is that none of the models we have ever sold from Beko have been affected, meaning that if you have purchased your Beko fridge freezer from us, no matter what year, your fridge freezer is safe. However, if you are still concerned please call the Beko helpline on 0800 009 4837.

Only models bought between January 2000 and October 2006 have been affected, please check the model and serial number on the fridge freezer which is located inside the fridge compartment.  The first two digits of the serial number give the year of production.

If your model begins with the following; 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 then you need to contact Beko to arrange a repair.
What are the model numbers affected?
The affected models are as follows; CDA543FX,CA5411FFS, CDA752FS, CDA645FW, CA5411FFW, CDA752FW, CDA647FS, CA5411FFX, CDA752FX, CDA647FW, CA7014FFX, CS460FF, CDA648FS, CA7015FFS,CS460FFS,CDA648FW,CA7015FFW, CS460FFSD, CDA653FS, CA7015FFX, CS461FFW, CDA653FW, CDA539FS, CS461FFS, CDA653FX, CDA539FW, CSA4706FFX, CDA659FS, CDA539FX, CSB4606FFS, CDA751FS, CDA543FS, CSB4606FFSD, CDA751FX, CDA543FW,CSB4606FFW

Please remember, if you have bought one of these models from Appliances Online you will not have been affected, all units sold from us were post-2006 meaning that all of our customers have safe, fully working models with no risks.

What exactly is the problem?
The problem lies in the defrost timer area, which controls the frost free function on the fridge freezer.  Condensation has been gathering around the timer which has allowed water to seep into the timer, occasionally causing the component to fail and overheat.  In extreme cases, but only a very small percentage, this has led to a fire.

How many people have been affected?
At this time, it is not clear how many people have faulty units.  Beko have mailed over 100,000 owners and successfully modified 11,000 units.

Can I get a new model?
All of the models are only affected in one area, the defrost timer, located at the rear of the appliance.  This part can easily be replaced and there is no need for the entire unit to be changed.

How do I get a replacement part?
Remember to call Beko directly and an engineer will come out to your home and a repair the fridge freezer free of charge.

Will this really be free?
Yes, Beko are covering the costs of repairs and parts.

How long will a repair take?
The repair will only take around 30 minutes for the engineer to complete.

I have a model which I bought somewhere else but I think it has been affected. What should I do?
If you own a model which has been affected then please call the free phone Beko number on 0800 009 4837 between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday.  To speed things up, please make sure that you have to hand the model and serial number of your product when you call.

What else can I do?
If you still need more information, or wish to check your model online then more details can be found on the Beko website www.beko.co.uk.  You can enter your model and serial number online and check if your product has been affected.

We know that news of this type can be distressing, but we want to reassure our customers that this type of fault is extremely rare.  We want to emphasise again that no models bought from Appliances Online have been affected.  Beko are doing everything possible to control the situation and for anyone who owns a model purchased from another company, Beko are responding quickly to all customers and getting repairs set up quickly to minimise stress and ensure the safety of everyone who owns one of the affect units.

My dad died in August 2006 as a result of a serious house fire that destroyed completely the downstairs part.  I was absolutely devastated and was informed by the fire people that it was his fridge freezer that was the cause.  They said that they were sure it was his fridge freezer that started it because of the evidence they got from the wall it was standing by.  Now I am so upset at hearing all this in the news about becko fridge freezers - i am absolutely sure it was a becko.  I need to contact the right people about what I can do about this - my dad died of smoke inhalation - I feel I cant let this go now after hearing this news.  There will be no trouble in getting evidence of my dads death and the cause, however, I need to know what steps to take with becko - please can you advise me.

I am totally confused by this post.

I bought a Beko CDA653FS only last month (2011) and yet it's on the list as being affected.  So is it affected or not?

I check on the Beko website, and the description here is a bit confusing.

So basically only some of the affected models are actually affected.  I have an "affected model", CDA653FS, but the first two numbers of the serial number shows the year that is was built in, and that shows that it's not affected.

For anyone else that wants to double check, just type in your details here:

https://refsafety.beko.co.uk/Home/Intro

And it will tell you.

It is no good giving a phone number, when it is not answered! It does however, let you know to get in touch through the internet. how come these companies answer if you are wanting to buy? But not when they have to recall a product?
