Hotpoint Quadrio Safety Issue News

You may have heard of a safety issue regarding Hotpoint’s Quadrio fridge freezer. A small number of people have reported problems of a large flash and loud bang from the left fridge door upon opening. We felt it best to compile a blog to help those affected, and put any worries at ease.

What is the problem?
Hotpoint are fully aware that some models have experienced an electrical trip from a wire that feeds into the top left hand door of the fridge. This wire is designed to aid in the prevention of condensation from building up inside the fridge. Through repeated opening and closing of the left door pressure is applied to the wire, and the stress has caused wires to be exposed inside.

Is it dangerous?
A few appliances affected have ‘short circuited’ as a result, but Hotpoint want to “reassure our customers that this will not produce an electric shock when opening or closing the doors in the normal way.” They insist the risk to consumers is extremely low.

Which models are affected?
A small number of Hotpoint Quadrio’s manufactured between June 2008 and October 2010 have been affected. The model numbers are FF4DK, FF4DX, FF4DKTVZ, FF4DSB, and FF4DXTVZ . If you’ve purchased one of the models after this time Hotpoint have confirmed that this problem will not occur.

What has been done to rectify this?
A stronger ‘Super Flex’ cable was introduced across all models in October 2010. This durable cable has been fully tested to ensure flexibility in repeated use, and has completely rectified the problem. All models from this date have been fitted with the cable.

What should I do if I am affected?
If you have purchased a Quadrio manufactured between June 2008 and October 2010 and have experienced this issue then you will be entitled to a free-of-charge service call and repair. A dedicated helpline has been created to support customers experiencing such issues, and they will resolve your issues with the Quadrio regardless of your warranty.

Hotpoint have accepted the fault and want to extend their deepest apologises to all customers affected.
