Get your woollens ready for winter!

Winter is once again upon us! No doubt you have pulled out your favourite woolly jumper from the back of the cupboard for slouching in front of the telly. And purchased a number of new cosy cardigans for work, to keep you warm at your desk. But did you know that if you don’t wash your woollens on the right cycle they can become bobbly and misshapen?

Too high temperatures and too fast spin speeds will send your jumpers and cardigans into an early grave. To look after your woollens properly, wash them gently at temperatures never higher than 40°C and only ever use low spin speeds. If your machine has one, you can select the wool cycle which will set the appropriate temperature and spin speed for you.

Zanussi washing machines that feature a wool programme protect your clothes by reducing the drum rotation so that your clothes are lightly and constantly moved in the water to reduce stretching and matting. Beko’s extra care wool wash, works in much the same way and can even wash cashmere. Whilst Bosch washing machines incorporate a woollens and a hand wash programme, which runs at only 27 rpm, uses a soft wash action and adds a special spin phase to ensures your cardigans and sweaters keep their shape.

Select Hotpoint washing machines such as the Aqualtis AQ113D697E feature a special programme which is so gentle it is even endorsed by Woolmark*, the world’s leading authority on all wool items. The Woolmark Platinum Care cycle uses extra soft agitation and low spin speeds to help eliminate any friction between wool fibres.

When drying your woollens, only ever dry them in a tumble dryer which has a special wool programme or comes with a wool drying rack. If you don’t have a tumble dryer you can roll your wet jumper up in a dry towel and press out the water and then leave it to dry flat.

Hotpoint’s top of the range tumble dryers such as the Aqualtis AQC9BF5I come with a unique Woolmark Silver Care option, which is also endorsed by Woolmark. It works by the drum moving in one direction throughout the drying action, which helps to eradicate any resistance between the fibres and ensure your favourite jumper stays warm a comfy.
