Of all the tumble dryers on the market, freestanding are certainly the most popular. They’re easy to install and can be slotted at the end of a run of kitchen cupboards, slotted into a space under a worktop or in some cases, popped in the garage or a bedroom.
Freestanding Tumble Dryers
A large drum is a must if there are 4 or more in the household. Anything around 7kg or greater would be considered a large dryer. Considering each 1kg of space can dry 3 shirts, you can see that a 7kg model like the Bosch Classixx WTE84105GB can dry 21 shirts in one go, or a double bedding set. Not bad if you’ve got a mountain of laundry to get through.
You've also got to think whether you want a condenser or a vented dryer. Vented dryers like the Hotpoint Aquarius+ TVF770K require less work in the long run because all the hot air is pumped outdoors through a window or wall.
Whereas condenser models do need to emptied, their water container that is, after every use. Condenser dryers are more flexible in terms of where they can go however, because all they need is an electricity supply – they’re the ultimate plug in and go appliance. Check out LG’s RC9011B condenser model. With a huge 9kg drum, this is one of our biggest dryers, (that’s enough room to dry 6 large bath towels.)
Look out for features such as sensor drying. This monitors the moisture in fabrics, stopping the machine once the selected level of dryness is reached.
