As this hob is induction, it works by using a magnetic field to generate heat into a magnetic pan, so you will need pans made from a ferrous material in order to cook on it. Though they needn't be expensive, just pans that a magnet would stick to - even cheap ones.
Because its induction, the hob surface itself does not become as hot as traditional ceramic electric hobs – the surface only picks up residual heat from the pan base, and so it is much safer as you are unlikely to burn yourself. It also makes the hob very easy to maintain, as any splashes will not become burnt on, and they can simply be wiped away.
The angled edge glass provides an elegant and practical working surface which is, rather usefully, super easy to clean. The hob itself is made from Smeg’s ‘suprema’ black ceramic glass, which offers extreme resistance to heat.
